Community speed surveys in Bexley
Neighbourhood Network volunteers may occasionally carry out simple roadside speed surveys to understand where speeding concerns are happening locally.
Residential streets matter
Lower speeds give people more time to react and help streets feel safer for everyone.
Why we carry out surveys
Many residents are concerned about the speed of traffic in residential roads, especially near homes, schools, parks, shops and crossings.
A short survey can help build a clearer picture of what is happening on a street, rather than relying only on impressions or isolated incidents.
The aim is to gather useful local information, highlight repeated concerns, and help communities have better-informed conversations about road safety.
What this is not
- × It is not police enforcement.
- × It is not about confronting drivers.
- × It is not a way to issue fines or penalties.
- × It is not intended to identify individual drivers.
Safer-feeling streets
Speed affects how comfortable people feel walking, cycling, crossing the road, or letting children travel independently.
Better local evidence
Survey notes can help separate occasional concerns from repeated patterns that may need further attention.
Constructive conversations
The aim is to support practical discussion with residents, councillors, police, council teams or local groups where appropriate.
If you have seen us carrying out a survey
Please be reassured that the activity is intended to record general traffic speeds and local conditions. Volunteers should not obstruct traffic, approach drivers, or create a distraction. If you have a question about a local survey, please contact your local Neighbourhood Network page when contact options are available.
